Discovering the history behind traditional Indian foods and beverages.

Spices actually have a very deep connection with Ayurvedic medicine, as they’re derived from all natural plants and henceforth have natural benefits. Cinnamon is a very commonly used spice in Indian cuisine/households as it has ability, assist in blood circulation, balancing of blood sugar, and fighting congestions. It’s actually one of the top best Ayurvedic spices, alongside Ginger, both of which are added in masala chai. Ginger is extremely useful in helping food move through your digestive system whilst avoiding constipation. In the same sense, all the spices used to make Masala Chai aid in the process of healthy digestion, and removing bad nutrients from the body. Altogether you need 8 spices: cinnamon, cloves, allspice, star anise, white pepper, cardamom, ginger and caraway seeds. These spices can either be in powder form or their natural form, in order to make Chai. Though the fresher they are the greater affect that they’ll have.

Something to keep in mind is that every household, every person, every restaurant, basically everyone has their own version of making chai. Each version most probably gives a slightly different taste. What makes the most difference is what you add, when you add it and how much you let it steep.
